West of Scotland Cup Round 3

Saturday 15th November 2008

Bannockburn  1 - 1  Harestanes                     (Scorer; David Ross)

0 - 0 after 90 mins,  1 - 1 aet,  Bannockburn won 3 - 1 on penalties

Bannockburn progressed into the 4th round on saturday, but were taken
right to wire by an excellent Harestanes side.

This was a cracking cup
tie with chances galore for both sides. It had everything, great saves, goals, red cards, and after a hard bruising battle the home side came out on top after a penalty shoot out.

The visitors missed a good
chance after only 2 mins then the keeper saved well from Donaldson. Bell also came close for the home side and G.Maitland pulled off 2 great saves just before the break. He was called into action again in the second half but again brought off another couple off great saves.

Near the end of the 90 mins, Bell had a great chance from 6 yds
and the visitors shaved the post with a header but the tie moved into
extra time.

Midway through the 1st period of extra time the home took
the lead when after a telling run from Bell he squared the ball to Ross who blasted the ball high into the net.

Into the second period of
extra time and with 5 mins gone the visitors equalised when the ball was forced home from a corner. Ross was then sent off for his second yellow but Bannockburn dug deep with their 10 men as Harestanes pushed forward.

Into the dreaded penalty shootout and with G.Maitland saving 3
penalties the home side won 3 - 1 with Bruce, Donald and Traynor all
converting their efforts to send Bannockburn into the next round.

An excellent, entertaining game which was very well handled by the referee.

Bannockburn  2 - 0  Giffnock North                (Scorers; Chris Traynor, Dougie Todd)

Bannockburn moved back to the top of the league on saturday with a
hard fought victory against their tough tackling opponents.
The
visitors were first to show when G. Maitland had to be alert to pull off a great savebut on 20 mins  the home side took the lead when they
were awarded a penalty after Donaldson was brought down in the box and Traynor duly converted.

Bannockburn then had two great chances from
Bell and S.Maitland but both failed to find the net. On 42 mins the home side then made it
2 - 0 when a long ball out of defence by the
visitors was met by D.Todd and his clearing header from inside his own half fully 55 yds, eluded the keeper, who had one eye on the advancing Bell, and the bounce took it over his head and into the net.

The
visitors tested G.Maitland again just before half time but he pulled off another fine save to keep them at bay. Both sides had chances in
the 2nd half and with G.Maitland pulling off argueably his best save off the game from a 25 yd free kick the home side ran out comfortable
winners.

Bannockburn are at home this saturday 15th Nov against Harestanes in the West of Scotland Cup 3rd round k.o. 1:30pm - played to a finish.

Wellhouse  0 - 6  Bannockburn                (Scorers; David Donaldson, Stuart Maitland 2, Steven Bell, Andy Clark, David Ross)

Bannockburn turned in a performance on Saturday that we all know they
can do, and completely over ran their opponents.

The home side came
close early on but their effort just went over the bar. Donaldson then was unluckly, before the same player made it 1 - 0 with a close range shot.

Bell and Stuart Maitland then combined well together and Stuart Maitland
finished well from 20yds to put the visitors 2 - 0 up at the break.

Just after the restart, Greg Maitland produced a great save to keep the home side out and then Bruce saw his shot scrape by the post as Burn went in search of the third goal.

They increased their lead on 55mins when
after a great run and cross by Purdie the ball found it's way to Stuart Maitland and he shot home from 10yds.

On the hour mark, they made it 4 - 0,when Bell blasted home from
close range to virtually finish this tie. Wellhouse then tested Greg Maitland again but he produced another fine save.

Bannockburn were
causing their opponents problems all over the park and Clark, Bruce and Ross all came close before a great run by MacLeod released Clark and he made no mistake from 10yds to make it 5 - 0.

Just before the
end another searching foray forward by McLeod caused panic in the home defenceand he found Ross who made no mistake from inside the box to make it 6 - 0.

A good all round performance by Bannockburn in what was
never going to be an easy place to go but they raised their game to move into the 3rd round.

Scottish Cup Round 2

Saturday 11th October 2008

Drumchapel United  4 - 1  Bannockburn            (Scorer; David Donaldson)

Many peoples favourites for the Scottish Cup, Drumchapel Utd, disposed
of Bannockburn at Glasgow Green on Saturday, and on this showing you can see why they are well fancied to go all the way. They went in front with 20min on the clock, when, from a quick taken corner kick, the striker blasted home from 20yds. Bannockburn were unlucky not to equalise shortly after when Bell squeezed the ball just past the post and a Purdie header came back off the bar, but they went in at the break one down. The tie was all but over 2 mins into the 2nd half when a close range effort eluded everyone to put the home side 2 up and right away it was 3 when they burst through and lobbed Maitland.

Another couple of great saves by Maitland kept the visitors at bay before Donaldson pulled one back for Burn with a good finish after
great work by Ross. As Bannockburn pushed forward, they were caught out with a quick breakaway and the home side added their 4th goal.

Bell
and Ross then came close but it was too late and Drum Utd seen thegame out. Bannockburn can have no complaints about the result, as on the day, they were beaten by the better side.
