May
1968, a conversation at the Tartan Amateurs involving some of the regulars
drifted towards Cambusbarron Rovers winning the Scottish Cup. The conclusion
was if Cambusbarron can win the Scottish Cup then so can
Bannockburn.
John McQue sent a letter the Stirling Amateur League applying for membership
for a team called Bannockburn Amateur FC.
John
Todd and Nagie Carney offered to run the team with John McQue as Secretary.
Our first strip was yellow tops with black shorts, John McQues wife spent hours sewing the black numbers onto the strips.
The first game was against Blackadders from Falkirk, they arrived and announced that there strips were also yellow, which was a bit of a crisis. With a bit of good fortune Johns mum had some white old shirts which belonged to John and his brother Joey. So we actually played in white shirts in our first game, which we won convincingly.
We
won the Third Division Championship in our first season 1968-69. Incredibly
Cambusbarron Rovers won the Scottish Cup again that season so that made us
even more determined. Eventually we reached our first Scottish Cup Final against
Douglas AFC in season 1971-72 with John Todd still as manager.
